Scholarship Requirements

Glenn always pushed to do his absolute best in everything he did. He demonstrated this through his excellent work ethic, ability to overcome adversity, and the simple fact that he made those around him smile without trying by being his goofy self. We will seek these qualifications from the individuals who would receive the scholarships. These scholarships will help these individuals have the chance to develop confidence, responsibility, and additional skills needed to become successful in their future and achieve their dreams. The dreams will include becoming a law enforcement officer, a paramedic, an EMT, a nurse, a firefighter, or any other rewarding career that allows one to help others in need.

This year, two $500 scholarships will be awarded.

To be considered for the Glenn Edward Porter III Scholarship, applicants must:

• Must be a graduating senior from Charleroi Area High School
• Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. 

               - A high school transcript is required.

• Has demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities and/or athletics
•  Has demonstrated a commitment to their community.
• Plans to attend a post-secondary training program to pursue a career in law
  enforcement. 

Consideration will also be given to those pursuing training to pursue a career in another first responder profession. 

-   A letter of acceptance will be required.

Having been a member of a Charleroi Area High School Athletics Team for at least two seasons would receive preference if the other criteria listed are met.

In 2025: Two $3,000 Scholarships will be awarded. (One in each 2025 graduating class of the Academy) 

Qualifications to be eligible for consideration are as follows:

• Not sponsored by another scholarship, police dept or GI benefits.
• Completion of Act 120 Training.
• Maintain an 85% or higher academic average.
• Demonstrate leadership in extracurricular activities / athletics.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the community.

           - (Minimum of 2 community service engagements)

• Demonstrate the ability to be a team player when necessary.
  

Charleroi Applicants

We ask any interested Charleroi students to please fill out the application and return it to the Guidance office. You can pick up an application in the office. Applications must be typed and submitted to the guidance office no later than Friday, APRIL 11th, 2025

Academy Applicants

Typed applications must be submitted to Director Cole no later than TBD.

• $3,000 Scholarship to two candidates upon the completion of their Act120 Certification from a local police academy
•  $500 Scholarship for two Charleroi High School seniors looking to continue some source of first responder training
